Breaking News from the Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company: Saltdean Lido’s Art Deco building will be saved! Just before 5pm yesterday, city councillors passed a historic motion which will see that Saltdean Lido is fully restored to its former glory. For the past 9 years, CIC volunteers and supporters from around the UK have helped raise over £6m in grants and donations. Today, city councillors voted unanimously to underwrite a £1.6m funding gap required to release these funds. This means that the CIC can now work with the HLF and other funders so that we can put the formalities in place and start the project. The restored building will have an Art Deco ballroom, community wing, heritage cafe and a library which will be open throughout the year. This will provide diverse income streams to make the lido sustainable, whilst providing much needed community facilities. This a historic milestone for this lido and we are thrilled to bits. We thank everyone who has believed in this project from the very beginning, and all of those volunteers - past and present - who have helped make this happen.
