A ROW BACK TO SALTDEAN IN THE 1930S!

Thank you to Richard Wheeler for sending us this great picture from his personal archive!

This shot of Richard's family members enjoying a boat trip out in Saltdean Bay was taken in the mid 1930s.
You can see the newly built  White Cliffs Cafe in the background, note how the tide reaches right up to the sea defense wall.
The  beach as we know  it today was created in the 1980s for increased protection of the Undercliff Walk.  Tons of pebbles were shipped in from Littlehampton and  'pumped' off of  large boats to fill up the shoreline.

If you have any old photos of our area along the coast from Ovingdean to Newhaven oar (see what we did there) from Peacehaven to Saltdean,  we would love to see them.
