drone footage of seaford head chalk fall and renewed warning

15/10/2018

Drone film taken over the top of Seaford Head after the recent cliff fall.
Newhaven Coastguard:
We have been sent this stunning drone footage of the latest chalk fall at Seaford Head.

This illustrates very well why we constantly urge people to keep away from the edge and base of the cliff.

Looking at the footage the cliff top has receded an estimated 8 metres in places in this one cliff fall, or in old money around 26 feet.
If you were stood on any of that ground when it collapsed you would have little or no time to escape.

Looking how far the chalk has spread from the base of the cliff you can see why we urge you to keep away from the base.
To the east (right) of the fall you can see the cliff is undermined so more falls are likely.

Our coastline is beautiful, but unpredictable.
Please remember your day at the coast for the right reasons.
In a Coastal emergency dial 999 and ask for Coastguard.
