Hurricane OPHELIA, Sahara dust, Spanish fires and an eerie october orange sky over Brighton16/10/2017 Brighton-Peacehaven-Rottingdean-Saltdean Not the end of the world just yet... As the tail end of Hurricane Ophelia caused havoc in Ireland and on the west side of Britain today, down here in the east of England there was very strange orange glow in the sky above! Looking slightly apocalyptic it was reminiscent to how the sky turns just prior to a solar eclipse as an eerie and untimely darkness fell over us. People stood outside pondering the oddness and drivers put on their car headlights at 2:30 in the afternoon! Apparently the weird discolouration was a result of tropical air containing dust from the Sahara desert and debris from forest fires originating from Spain/Portugal being pulled over us by the remnants of Hurricane Ophelia. Thank you, Karen Clark for capturing today's colourful heavens over Saltdean.
