Foster Carers give children love, support and a safe place to stay.

Brighton & Hove City Council wants to recruit more local foster carers in our area. If you have a spare bedroom and childcare experience, we’d love to hear from you. We offer our foster carers generous, financial allowances and first class services.

We thought you might like to read 6 things you may not know about fostering...

1.
There is no such thing as a 'typical' foster carer. You can be single, in a relationship, married, gay or straight, a home owner or renting

All you need is a spare room, time to give a vulnerable local child and a big heart.

2.
You can offer a home for long term, short term, emergency, or respite care.
If you’re a short term carer, you might only have a child for a few nights every month but you’d still be making a massive difference to a child’s life, offering them a loving short term home whilst they transition to a longer term placement.

3.
It takes about 6 months to become a foster carer with us.
During this time you'll go through an extensive assessment process and receive lots of training and support to make sure you feel comfortable and confident in your new role. Once you are approved as a carer, you'll have your own supervising social worker who you’ll be in regular contact with and our out of hours service means you’ll never be on your own.

4.
You’ll receive a generous financial package.

For each child you foster, you’ll be paid an allowance meaning you can transform a child’s life and get paid for doing something extremely rewarding.

5.
We can help you work towards an NVQ in Fostering and you'll receive ongoing training.
This means that you constantly grow and develop in your new role, providing your foster child with the best care and support possible and at the same time creating a fulfilling and long term career for yourself.

6.
You’ll be part of a supportive and vibrant foster carer community.
You’ll be able to meet other carers for support, advice and friendship at our carer coffee mornings, support groups and events throughout the year, creating invaluable bonds and friendships.
