Lloyd Russell-Moyle, MP for the Brighton, Kemptown and Peacehaven constituency, said the Saltdean Lido CIC is just £10k away from its £102,000 target and it would be disastrous for the plans to fail at this stage. ‘There has already been a huge amount of effort getting the pool opened and local people have been fantastic in helping to make that happen,’ said the MP (pictured here on the opening day last year). But for the long term prospects of the Lido, it is essential that residents in the area show their financial support - and so he is urging local people to 'dig deep' to get that last bit of cash in before the deadline. ‘Funding has been promised that will change the fortunes of the building for the benefit of everyone in the area. We just need to show that we care about what happens and really want to see the Lido restored back to its final glory,’ added the MP. The conditions of over £4m worth of Lottery funding depend on the community showing their commitment by raising the £102,000 by June 16. At the time of going to press the CIC had received pledges of around £92,000 with a number of events planned to make up the difference. ‘We know that the majority of this fundraising has come from the minority of residents and there are still people who will benefit from the Lido’s full restoration but haven’t yet contributed. It would be great if everyone who can afford to puts their hands in their pockets now,’ added Lloyd.
