Hi there, we are Anne and Julie and we co-own the Road Shack Diner on South Coast Road in Peacehaven. We took over this charming little place in March this year and have been busy trying to establish it as a community hub as well as a great place to eat.
Before we arrived in Peacehaven we had a small catering van and provided porridge, hot drinks and flapjacks to commuters outside Brighton train station. That was a flourishing business for around two years and we enjoyed it immensely despite having to get up at 04:15 every morning!

Then the rail disruptions started and as things got worse we noticed a vast drop in foot fall. Our customers were leaving in droves. They could not cope with the uncertainty of whether they would get into work or when they would get home each day. Lots began to work from home or find local jobs. A tiny business like ours could not deal with the changes this made to us and so we decided, with regret, to cease trading in December 2016. We had been there nearly three years and had made many friends and connections. We also realised that we really loved providing people with food, drink and a friendly ear.

This led us to searching for something more stable and we decided that it was time to take on a cafe. The Road Shack Diner was being advertised at just the right time for us and we fell in love with it immediately. We decided to keep the theme of an American Diner but brought our own unique twist to the place and so Peacehaven now has it’s first vegan cafe!

So, come on in: you can still have all-day breakfasts with unlimited tea or coffee, pancakes drowning in maple syrup or big burgers with sides of chunky fries. There is also plenty for the smaller appetite too and locally-made cakes and cookies to finish off with.

We hope to welcome you soon!
