The Art of Puppetry - Making Magic in the Museum is an exhibition born out of a show at The Grange Gallery & Museum in 2015 called 'The Wonderful World of Puppetry'. The Rottingdean Smugglers Puppet Theatre is on display at Hove Museum & Art Gallery as part of this exciting 6 month exhibition. Co-ordinated by ZoneZine resident Amanda Rosenstein Davidson it features four large theatrical paintings based in and around the theatre and represents performance, ballet, circus and puppetry. Philip Sugg's miniature pop-up theatres and his collaborative works with Amanda - mainly 'Rikki Tikki Tavi', as featured in The Kipling Festival and 'The Rottingdean Smugglers Play,' which has a written script and performance by Beccy Smith and Darren East of Touched Theatre, are also included in the exhibition. Touched Theatre are based in Kemp Town and run puppetry workshops at the Copperdollar studio. They too are showing work created by Darren East for the Brunswick Festival and other projects. Liza Stevens is a Newhaven based published children's book illustrator/author and has her Bluebeard characters on display. Imogen Di Sapia of Bright Moon Theatre is displaying Baba Yaga & Vassilli the Brave which demonstrate her talent for folklore storytelling and textiles. Rust and Stardust Company - Eleanor Conlon and Katie Sommers - are displaying their costumes and puppet characters from parts of their many shows. The exhibition runs until November 30th.
