Local MP Lloyd Russell-Moyes became the first member of parliament to announce he was HIV in the House of Commons.
Mr Russell-Moyes took the opportunity to talk openly about his diagnosis during a debate on public health last week.
You can watch the historic speech above.
Lloyd Russell-Moye wrote on his Facebook page: The last 24 hours have been many things; frightening, empowering, and relieving.
But the emotion I’m feeling most right now is gratitude.
Since speaking in the House of Commons I’ve received an outpouring of love and support from so many. From colleagues in the chamber to people emailing me telling me I’ve given them the courage to speak about their own status.
I know how much today’s reaction would have meant to twenty-two year old me.
