An event to help raise much needed funds to help terminally ill children create memories with their families is to be held at The Avenue Tea Rooms in Saltdean on Monday, May 14.
The Starlight charity will benefit from the Hungarian themed lunch and dinner being offered at the venue, hopefully to the tune of £3000.
Derrick Longhurst and his wife, Carmen, have been raising funds for Starlight since the loss of their daughter, Rania, eight years ago at the age of three.
''We know how important this charity is for so many people and want to help,’ he said. ‘I’ve done lots of other things such as jumped out of planes or had my body hair ripped out to raise money but this is the first time I’ve done a whole event on my own.''
The theme was chosen as Carmen comes from Hungary and so there is a family link.
''The venue will be decorated accordingly and traditional dishes such as goulash will be on the menu.''
The evening sitting for food has already sold out although there are still some tables available for the 3pm service – and all are welcome to join at any time for a drink and to enjoy the live music, auction and raffle.
Donations of cash or raffle prizes are also welcome and can be delivered to The Avenue Tea Rooms in Longridge Avenue any time before the event.
