''there is a beautiful culture of charity here'' - Local musician Bidi Setz tells us about his Amnesty Fundraising gig

Amnesty Fundraiser
by Michael 'Bidi' Setz from Saltdean

There are two main reasons, why i came up with the idea of a fundraiser event for Amnesty International.

The first is, I really like what Amnesty stands for. Imagine in some countries, people can be put into prison just because of their political opinions, or just because their skin colour, sexual orientation or because they are a woman and want to drive a car.

Also in many countries the conditions in prisons are horrible and nobody cares about the people there.

Amnesty does care and try to help people in these terrible situations.

The second reason for me is, I  have learned in the last 5 years since I've been in England, that there is a beautiful culture of charity here, actually more than I have experienced it in Germany. So I'm happy to do something and work for free and my band mates are also happy to do so, as we want to raise money for such a great organisation.

I started supporting Amnesty in 2000, when I still lived in Berlin and I first came in contact with the Brighton and Hove Amnesty International Group, about two years ago. I played background music for the annual letter-writing event Dec 2016 and Dec 2017. Last December I offered to play a fundraiser event with my two function cover bands Barrelhouse and Brilliant Mistakes. The idea is to spend an evening with music to raise money for Amnesty.

This Friday 13th April we will play an evening of pop, soul and rock music from the last, let's say 5 decades, at the Latest Bar in Brighton. Please show your support and come to raise money for this great organisation. 100% of the ticket sales go directly to Amnesty International. If you can't make it, you can still support the charity by buying a ticket anyway.

You can book tickets here in advance. It will be seated, but there will be also enough room and to dance. We all would love to see you. If you click on the link below you will be able to purchase your ticket in advance - Thank you, Bidi.
