What do you do?
I lead Brighton and Hove City Council.
How did you get into it?
I’ve had an interest in politics most of my life, but more than that is a sense of public service and a strong desire to help people. I became a local councillor in 2003.
What's the best thing about what you do?
Being able to make small changes that make a big difference to people’s lives, being able to make big differences for Brighton and Hove so that the city’s future is as great as it’s past.
What’s the most difficult part of what you do?
Limits and obstacles to doing any of the above. Not having enough funding, housing, powers to do what needs to be done.
What advice have you got for people who’d like to get into what you do?
Get involved in your community, try to make a difference, choose a political party that you identify with, be a school governor, volunteer. Any of those things.
